Sunday, 12th May - Moab

Today we visited the final two of Utah's Mighty Five national parks - Arches and Canyonlands.

Firstly, breakfast at the Jailhouse Cafe in Moab.

We had to pre-book our entrance time to Arches as it can get overly busy during the peak season (cost - $2). We enjoyed a four hour drive, with stops, through a magical landscape of predominantly red sandstone features (similar to Monument Valley in parts) with the snowy peaks (12,500ft) of the La Sal Mountains in the background.

There are over 2,000 arches in the park, all created by the effects of water and wind erosion.

We then moved on to our final national park visit, Canyonlands. This involved a 12 mile drive along a ridge/plateau sitting high above the Green River to the west and the Colorado River to the east. Spectacular views, similar to a mini version, albeit still on a grand scale, of the Grand Canyon, especially on the Colorado River side.

Back to Moab for dinner al fresco (evening temperatures still in the low 20s).
