Monday, 6th May - Williams to Las Vegas
This post will be late as wi-fi doesn't appear to reach the heady heights of the seventh floor of the Paris Casino and Resort on The Strip in Las Vegas (roll of the eyes!). Pictures will be added later for the same reason.
After enjoying a hearty breakfast in the Fred Harvey restaurant in the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel, Williams, we headed west initially picking up I40 again and then Route 66 (the longest single remaining stretch at over 65 miles) to Seligman, the beating heart of the spirit of Route 66. After a coffee and cake in the legendary Roadrunner Cafe ....
....... we continued on to Hackberry and the General Store, another Route 66 icon. Photo opportunities galore abound as it is home to several old abandoned vehicles and lots of other Americana and memorabilia (not to mention an eclectic and well stocked shop ...... purchases may have been made ....).
Onward to Kingman before leaving Route 66 behind for the final time this trip and heading north 100 miles to Las Vegas, Nevada (the 5th and final state we will visit on this journey) and our home for the next two nights the Paris Casino and Resort home to, of course, a half size replica of the Eiffel Tower.
After an inordinately long wait in line to check in (who said America is famous for customer service? No coffee facilities in the room either!) we took a taxi the couple of miles to the Orleans Hotel and Showroom for a quick dinner before taking in the excellent Jersey Boys live show (for those who may not know, it tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons). The tickets to the show were Suse and Barbara's Christmas presents from 2023.
