Friday, 10th May - Springdale to Tropic
After our $8 a head breakfast at Oscar's we drove round the outskirts of Zion National Park, threaded our way up the hairpin bends and through the Mount Carmel Tunnel (1.1 miles long) on the 80 mile trip north east towards Bryce National Park.
Unlike yesterday when we travelled in to and through the canyon at Zion, today we drove along an 18 mile ridge up to 9000 feet elevation to look down from various outlook points at vivid red outcrops of ancient rock.
And a very tame raven.
Suddenly, the clouds rolled in, the temperature plummeted to just above freezing and it started snowing! Having made the most of the viewpoints we decided to leave and made our way to our overnight accommodation in Tropic (ironic!), The Bryce Valley Lodging (pretty basic cabins with sketchy Internet and no coffee cups/glasses!).
Short trip today then.
