Saturday, 27th April - Colorado Springs to Santa Fe
After thunderstorms overnight we drove out of Colorado Springs in sleet, snow and rain to start our 330 mile journey south down Interstate 25 over the border into New Mexico and our overnight accommodation at The Inn of the Governors in Santa Fe.
Two quick pit stops on the way, in Trinidad CO and Las Vegas - no, not THAT one - NM.
On arrival at The Inn of the Governors we snacked on a huge plate of nachos before retiring to the lounge for a complimentary welcome reception of sherry and cinnamon biscuits - all very civilised.
We then enjoyed a somewhat bracing walk around Santa Fe itself taking in the many arts and craft stores, the Plaza in front of the Palace of the Governors, St Francis Cathedral and the Loretta Chapel (home to the miraculous, or not depending on your views, staircase).
I am so envious of you being back at the Inn of the Governors again - did you make use of the fireplace in the room this time? And Santa Fe itself - I bet Suse found her way to the Christmas shop again, and of course you would have to go to the Loretta Chapel, one of the most miraculous places in Santa Fe (for a small fee!).
ReplyDeleteI had to look up the miraculous staircase. Wow what a feat of engineering. Not sure how you had room for cinnamon biscuits after all those nachos.
